Quick and Easy Braised Tofu
Ingredients:
- 1 block of firm tofu
- 2 tbsp of vegetable oil
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger, peeled and grated
- 2 tbsp of soy sauce
- 1 tbsp of hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp of brown sugar
- 1/2 cup of water
- green onions, for garnish
Instructions:
- Press tofu between paper towels to remove excess water
- Cut tofu into small cubes
- In a pan, heat 2 tbsp of oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add cubed tofu and brown on all sides.
- Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the pan and sauté for a few seconds until fragrant.
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and 1/2 cup of water. Add the sauce to the pan and stir until tofu is coated with sauce.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and let the tofu simmer in the sauce for 5-7 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and serve hot with rice.

- 1/2 block of firm tofu
- 1/4 cup of cornstarch
- 1/4 cup of flour

- 1 tbsp of mirin
- 1 tbsp of sugar
- vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/4 cup of grated daikon radish, for garnish
- 1 tbsp of chopped green onions, for garnish
Instructions:
- Press tofu between paper towels to remove excess water
- Cut tofu into bite-sized cubes
- In a shallow bowl, combine cornstarch, flour, and baking powder. Dredge tofu cubes in the mixture, shaking off excess flour.
- In a small saucepan, combine dashi stock, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Bring to a boil then lower heat and let simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add tofu cubes and fry for 2-3 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Drain tofu cubes on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Arrange tofu cubes in a bowl and pour the sauce over it. Garnish with grated daikon radish and chopped green onions. Serve hot.
