Pecan Pie Recipe for Thanksgiving
As the holiday season approaches, there’s no better time to start planning your Thanksgiving menu. And what better way to round out your meal than with a classic, Southern-style pecan pie? If you’ve never made one before, don’t worry – this recipe is easy to follow and sure to please.
First, gather your ingredients:
For the pie crust:
– 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
– 2-3 tablespoons ice water
For the filling:
– 1 cup light corn syrup
– 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
– 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
– 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
– 2 cups pecans, roughly chopped
Now let’s get baking!
To make the crust, combine the flour and salt in a large bowl. Add the butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add the ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together in a ball. Flatten the ball into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 350°F. Roll out the crust on a lightly floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Gently transfer the crust to the dish and trim the edges. Use a fork to poke a few holes in the bottom of the crust.
In a large bowl, whisk together the corn syrup, brown sugar, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir in the chopped pecans. Pour the filling into the prepared crust.
Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown. If the edges of the crust start to brown too quickly, cover them with a strip of aluminum foil.
Let the pie cool completely before serving. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, if desired.
