Sometimes, you just need a good old-fashioned comfort meal. And for me, that’s Salisbury steak. There’s something about that classic beef and mushroom gravy combo that just hits the spot. I’ve got two takes on this classic dish that I’m excited to share with you today: a slow cooker version and a frozen meal option.
Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak and Mashed Potatoes
First up, my slow cooker Salisbury steak recipe. This one is a favorite in my family because it’s so easy to throw together in the morning and have dinner ready by the time we get home from work and school. Plus, the beef is so tender and flavorful thanks to the slow cooking process.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 2 cups sliced mushrooms
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 4 cups mashed potatoes, for serving
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well and shape into 4 patties.
- Place the onion and mushrooms in the bottom of a slow cooker. Place the patties on top.
- Pour the beef broth over the patties and vegetables.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the beef is tender.
- In a small bowl, mix together the cornstarch and cold water. Stir into the slow cooker and cook on high for a few minutes until the gravy thickens.
- Serve the Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes.

For those nights when you don’t have time to cook and need a quick and easy meal, I always keep some frozen options on hand. One of my go-to’s is the Banquet Meal Salisbury Steak. It’s affordable, filling, and hits the spot when I’m craving that classic beef and gravy flavor.

Instructions:
- Remove the frozen meal from the box and follow the instructions on the package for cooking in the oven or microwave.
