First things first, let me tell you how simple it is to make these heavenly little cakes. And as for the ingredients, well, you might already have them lying around in your fridge! You’ll need 2 cups of cooked and shredded Dungeness crabmeat, 2 tbsp. mayonnaise, 1 tbsp. Dijon mustard, 1 tsp. Old Bay Seasoning, 1 egg, 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, salt, and freshly ground pepper to taste.
Now, once you’ve got all the ingredients ready, it’s time to get cooking! In a large bowl, mix together the crabmeat, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Old Bay Seasoning, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper and egg. Make sure to mix everything properly until it becomes one big, happy family.
Now the fun part: we’re going to form little crab cakes out of the mixture. Take a handful of the mixture and shape it into a patty, no more than 1-inch thick. Repeat with the rest of the mixture and place the crab cakes onto a baking sheet. The next step is, of course, to cook these bad boys. Heat a non-stick pan on medium heat and add a tablespoon of oil and a tablespoon of butter. Once the butter has melted, add in the crab cakes in batches and cook them until they’re golden brown and crispy.
Now that we’ve made these delicious little crab cakes, it’s time to add some fun to them! You can serve them with slices of lemon, tartar sauce, or spicy aioli. And, if you want to give them a crispy edge, you can sprinkle a little bit of breadcrumbs on top of them. You can even make them into mini crab cake sliders with a little bit of lettuce, some red onion, and a dollop of tartar sauce. The possibilities are endless!
