When it comes to cooking fish, there’s no better way to do it than by steaming it. Our first recipe, the Chinese Style Steamed Fish, is a must-try for every seafood lover.

Chinese Style Steamed Fish

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole fish, cleaned and scaled (red snapper or sea bass work well)
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2-inch piece of ginger, cut into thin strips
  • 3 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • Large pinch of salt
  • Cilantro leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Season the fish with salt and pepper, then place on a heatproof plate or steaming tray.
  2. Spread the ginger, garlic, and green onions over the fish.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, and vegetable oil. Pour this mixture over the fish and vegetables.
  4. Bring water to a boil in a pot or wok, then place the plate of fish on a steaming rack and cover the pot/wok with a lid. Steaming time will vary based on the size of the fish, but a good rule of thumb is to steam for 8-10 minutes per 1 inch of thickness.
  5. Carefully remove the plate from the pot/wok and garnish with cilantro leaves before serving.
