Traditional Shepherd’s Pie Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 pounds ground lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 3 cups mashed potatoes
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground lamb until browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté the onion and garlic until softened.
- Add tomato paste, beef broth, red wine, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Bring to a boil and let it simmer until thickened for about 10 minutes.
- Return the ground lamb to the skillet and stir to combine with the sauce.
- Transfer the meat mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top of the meat mixture, then sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until heated through and the cheese is melted and bubbly on top.
- Serve hot.
