For the marinade, combine the yogurt, garlic, ginger, cumin, coriander, paprika, cayenne pepper, turmeric, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add the chicken and stir to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 24 hours.
When you’re ready to cook, heat the ghee or oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and sauté until softened and lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Add the marinated chicken and cook until browned on all sides, about 8 minutes.
Reduce the heat to medium and add the crushed tomatoes. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened slightly. Add the cream and cook for another 5 minutes, until heated through.
Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot with naan bread or rice.
