I am in love with Korean food, especially kimchi jjigae! This hearty soup has just the right amount of spiciness and tanginess. One of my favorite chefs, Baek Jong Won, has shared his amazing recipe with us, so let’s get cooking!
First, we need to gather our ingredients. For this recipe, we will need:
– 2 cups of chopped kimchi
– 1/2 cup of pork or beef shoulder
– 1/4 cup of chopped onion
– 2 tablespoons of minced garlic
– 1 tablespoon of gochujang (Korean chili paste)
– 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
– 4 cups of water
– 1/2 cup of tofu
– green onions for garnish
Now that we have everything, let’s start cooking! In a large pot, sauté the meat until well browned. Then, add in the onion and garlic and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Next, add the kimchi and gochujang and stir well. Pour in the water and soy sauce and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and let simmer for about 20 minutes. Finally, add in the tofu and let cook for another 5 minutes.
Now that our soup is ready, it’s time to serve! Ladle the kimchi jjigae into bowls and garnish with chopped green onions. This soup is perfect on its own or with a side of rice.

– 1 pound of thinly sliced beef sirloin
– 1/4 cup of soy sauce
– 2 tablespoons of sugar
– 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
– 1 tablespoon of minced garlic
– 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
– 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
– 1 sliced onion
– 2 sliced green onions
– 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds
In a large bowl, mix together the soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, and black pepper. Add the beef and toss to coat. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan and stir-fry the onion until translucent. Add the beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes or until cooked through. Garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
