Okay folks, hold on to your hats because we’ve got a delicious Shepherd’s Pie recipe coming your way. If you’re not drooling just yet, just wait until you see the pictures.
First up, we have the “A Little Cooking” version. This one looks like it’s straight out of a magazine. Let’s call it “Fancy Shepherd’s Pie.”
Fancy Shepherd’s Pie

Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 pounds ground lamb
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 2 cups mashed potatoes
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- In a large skillet, cook the lamb, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the meat is browned and the onions are translucent.
- Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
- Add the tomato paste, beef broth, red wine, rosemary, and thyme. Bring to a simmer and cook until the liquid is reduced by half.
- In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread the lamb mixture in an even layer.
- Spoon the mashed potatoes over the lamb mixture and spread in an even layer.
- Sprinkle the parmesan cheese over the mashed potatoes.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
Now, let’s check out the “Quick and Easy” version, or as we like to call it, “Lazy Shepherd’s Pie.”
Lazy Shepherd’s Pie
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped

- 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables
- 2 cups mashed potatoes
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the meat is browned and the onions are translucent.
- Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
- Stir in the condensed cream of mushroom soup and frozen mixed vegetables.
- Spoon the beef mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spoon the mashed potatoes over the beef mixture and spread in an even layer.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
